Brazil's First Corn Crop 48% Planted vs. 46% Last Year
Author: Michael Cordonnier/Soybean & Corn Advisor, Inc.
The first corn crop in southern Brazil was 48% planted as of late last week compared to 46% last year according to AgRural. This represents an advance of 9% for the week. Parana is leading the way with 90% of the corn planted as of late last week. The corn is 7% germinating, 93% in vegetative development and rated 4% average and 96% good.
Estimates for the 2024/25 corn production in Brazil vary more than for soybeans. Conab is estimating the 2024/25 corn production at 119.7 million tons, while the USDA is estimating 127.0 million tons and the Brazilian Corn Producers Association (Abramilho) is estimating 120.0 million tons. My current estimate is 125.0 million tons.
