2024/25 Brazil Safrinha Corn 64% Planted

Safrinha corn in Brazil was 64% planted as of late last week compared to 73% in 2023 according to AgRural. This represents an advance of 28% for the week. Some of the safrinha corn is going to be planted in March, but not nearly as much as was feared several weeks ago. With another good week of planting, the safrinha corn could be as much as 85% planted by March 1st.

Brazil's first corn crop was 37% harvested as of late last week compared to 42% last year. In parts of Rio Grande do Sul, the corn harvest is wrapping up.

Mato Grosso - Safrinha corn planting in Mato Grosso was 67.1% as of late last week compared to 80.3% last year and 70.2% average according to Imea. This represents an advance of 22% for the week and it's now just 3% behind average. The fastest planting pace is in the mid-north region where 78.4% of the safrinha corn has been planted.

Parana - Farmers in Parana had planted 56% of their intended safrinha corn as of earlier last week according to the Department of Rural Economics (Deral). The corn is 27% germinating, 73% in vegetative development and rated 100% in good condition, at least for now. Germination and plant populations are reported to be good.

Parana is the second largest safrinha corn producing state in Brazil responsible for approximately 16% of the production. Mato Grosso is the leading safrinha corn producing state in Brazil responsible for approximately 48% of the production.

Deral reported that the first corn crop in Parana is 30% harvested The corn remaining in the field is 25% filling grain, 75% maturing and rated 9% average and 91% good. Yields of the first corn crop are reported to be variable, but within expectations.

Mato Grosso do Sul - According to Aprosoja/MS, 26.6% of the safrinha corn in the southern part of the state had been planted as of earlier last week compared to 21.2% in the central part of the state and 15% in the northern part of the state.
