Inmet Forecast Hotter and Dryer Conditions Next Three Months

The Brazilian National Weather Service (Inmet) last Thursday issued their 3-month forecast for April-May-June. The map below-left is the forecast for precipitation and below-right is the temperature forecast.
Precipitation during the period is expected to be below normal in all the major agricultural areas of Brazil. Temperatures are expected to be above normal for the period, especially in the west-central region.
It is common for the rainfall to decline significantly in April, which is considered the transition month between the rainy season and the dry season. If this forecast verifies, it would be particularly important for the southern safrinha corn in the states of Parana, southern Mato Grosso do Sul, Sao Paulo, and Minas Gerais. This region is responsible for approximately 40% of the safrinha corn acreage. The region has received below normal rainfall for at least the past month and the corn will need additional rainfall into the month of May.
