Rain favored western Mato Grosso, southern and eastern Mato Grosso do Sul, Sao Paulo, and Parana over the weekend in Brazil. The heaviest rainfall occurred in southern Mato Grosso do Sul, southern Sao Paulo, and northern Parana. Northern areas remained mostly dry or received light and scattered rain. Drier weather is expected across Brazil this week with showers returning to southern Brazil by the weekend.
Rainfall in the southern safrinha area has exceeded historic norms for about the last month. Over the weekend, some of the previous dryer areas such as northern Parana, Sao Paulo, and southern Mato Grosso do Sul received rain. Very large hail was recorded in Fathima do Sul in Mato Grosso do Sul which severely impacted local corn crops, but the impacted area was limited.
The improved conditions in the southern safrinha area may partly compensate for losses in the northern areas. Therefore, the 2025/26 Brazil corn estimate was increased 2.0 million tons this week to 136.0 million.
Conab increased their corn estimate 600,000 tons last week to 140.2 million while the USDA increased their corn estimate 3 million tons to 135.0 million.
