Corn - Corn planting has run ahead of schedule all spring and the crop is now 94% emerged. The condition of the corn improved 1% last week and is now rated 68% good/excellent. Recent rains have improved the soil moisture across the heart of the Corn Belt which should remain adequate through the end of June. The conditions this week look favorable for crop development.

I realize it is early in the growing season to make yield adjustments, but without any threatening weather on the horizon, it looks like the crop will enter the critical July period under favorable conditions. Therefore, the U.S. corn yield was increased 1.0 bushels this week to 182.0 bu/ac). The corn harvested acreage will be adjusted, if necessary, once the June Planted Report is issued on June 30th. The area to watch for corn is the western and northwestern Corn Belt where they could use additional moisture.

Soybeans - Soybean planting has run ahead of schedule all spring and the crop is now 95% planted. Cooler weather may have slowed the early crop development somewhat, but the soybeans were planted early enough to avoid any problems. Soybeans are now rated 66% good/excellent and there is adequate soil moisture for most of the crop through the end of June.

Therefore, the U.S. soybean yield was increased 0.5 bushels this week to 52.5 bu/ac. The soybean harvested acreage will be adjusted, if necessary, once the June Planted Report is issued on June 30th. The area to watch for soybeans is also the western and northwestern Corn Belt where they could use additional moisture.
