2026/27 Corn Planting in Brazil to Start This Month (August)

Author: Michael Cordonnier/Soybean & Corn Advisor, Inc.

August is starting out with more rain I southern Brazil and dryness in central and northern Brazil. As of this writing, there have not been any reports of 2026/27 corn being planted in southern Brazil. Farmers in southern Brazil may start planting their first corn crop whenever they feel the conditions are favorable. Usually, the planting starts in mid-to-late August.

Planting may start earlier this year due to abundant soil moisture after several months of unusually heavy rainfall. Planting will probably start first in the state of Parana. The start of corn planting in Rio Grande do Sul may be delayed by recent excessive rainfall. In fact, a tornado earlier last week caused damage in three municipalities in northwestern Rio Grande do Sul, which is very unusual for the state.

The trend in recent years has been to reduce the first corn crop acreage in favor of more soybeans and then to increase safrinha corn acreage after the soybeans are harvested.
