2026/27 Planting Progress in South America

Brazil corn - Farmers in southern Brazil had planted 2% of their first corn crop as of late last week compared to 3.2% last year according to AgRural. Corn planting has started in Parana and Santa Catarina while wet conditions have slowed initial planting in the state of Rio Grande do Sul.
Brazil soybeans - Farmers in Mato Grosso are allowed to start planting soybeans on September 7th while farmers in Parana are allowed to start planting the first week of September.
Argentina sunflowers - The 2026/27 sunflower crop in Argentina was 14.4% planted as of late last week, which represents an advance of 2.6% from the prior week. Farmers are expected to plant 3 million hectares of sunflowers in 2026/27. Most of the sunflower planted thus far have been in northern Argentina.
Argentina corn - There are no reports of corn being planted as yet in Argentina. Corn is planted in two phases with the first phase in September and October and the second phase in December and January. The Rosario Grain Exchange estimates that the corn acreage will decline 5.4% in 2026/27 due to the cost of combating corn leafhoppers and higher fuel and freight costs.
Argentina soybeans - Farmers in Argentina generally do not start planting soybeans until the second half of October with planting completed in January.
