Stormy Weather in Southern Brazil, Hot and Dry in Central Brazil

The weather in Brazil is a study of contrasts. Temperatures this week will be a high as 40C (104 °F) across central and eastern Brazil with relative humidity as low as 10% to 20%. The forecast indicates firm weather with few clouds in most of the region with the possibility of a few isolated showers in far northwestern Mato Grosso. The combination of heat and little rain maintains concern for agricultural and livestock activities.
In contrast, southern Brazil has the most favorable conditions for storms. A low-pressure system maintains the possibility of heavy rain, thunderstorms, intense winds and hail. The risk for storms is highest in Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina, but there is also a chance of rain and thunderstorms in Parana.
There are indications that light rains may occur in early September in areas of Mato Grosso, Goias, Minas Gerais, Bahia, and Tocantins, Metrologists are warning that these rains are not the beginning of the summer rainy season and that farmers should be very cautious about planting their summer crops after the first light rain.
