The state of Mato Grosso is already Brazil's largest corn ethanol producer and the state is slated to get more corn ethanol facilities.
FS Bioenergia, which is Brazil's largest corn ethanol producer, announced this week they plan to construct 4 more corn ethanol facilities in the state. They already operate two facilities in central Mato Grosso, one in the city of Lucas do Rio Verde and the other in the city of Sorriso. Their third facility will be located in the city of Primavera do Leste in southeastern Mato Grosso and it is scheduled to be operational in 2024. The company stated that they will be announcing shortly the locations and timing of the other three facilities.
Their facility in Locus do Rio Verde was opened in 2017 and it was Brazil's first corn-based ethanol facility. The capacity of that facility has since been expanded to 530 million liters per year. The Sorriso facility was expanded in 2021 and it now has the capacity of 810 million liters per year.
In 2020/21 FS Bioenergia produced 1.4 billion liters of corn ethanol and according to Fitch Ratings, they produced 430 liters of ethanol per ton of corn processed in 2020/21.
The expansion of corn ethanol production in Brazil has been amazing given the fact that Brazil's first corn ethanol facility opened only four years ago.
